Foot Care from Dr. William Knudson | Caring for Aging Feet

Dr. William Knudson is an experienced podiatrist with a long history of rewarding patient care. Dr. William Knudson points out that many people underestimate the amount of work their feet do. No matter where a person goes, says Dr. William Knudson, it is the feet that got them there.

After years of wear and walking, adds Dr. William Knudson, it is only natural that the feet begin to feel the effects of time and toil. Dr. William Knudson advises patients that as they get older it becomes more important to pay adequate attention to the feet. Develop healthy foot habits, says Dr. William Knudson, like wearing well fitting shoes and keeping the toenails properly trimmed. Foot problems often serve as early warnings of serious conditions like diabetes or circulatory disorders, according to Dr. William Knudson.

Dr. William Knudson suggests several ways to practice good foot care and be kind to the feet. Be sure to take a look at the feet on a regular basis, says Dr. William Knudson, particularly the toenails and the bottoms of the feet. Keep an eye out, cautions Dr. William Knudson, for ingrown toenails, cuts and blisters. If it is difficult to get a good view of the bottom of your feet, Dr. William Knudson suggests laying a small mirror on the ground to make it easier. Dr. William Knudson also recommends asking a family member for help.

A person with diabetes, advises Dr. William Knudson, should make a point of checking their feet every single day. Also, when seated it is a good idea to elevate the feet, points out Dr. William Knudson. Putting your feet up while seated, says Dr. William Knudson, improves circulation and that will improve the health of your feet. Other simple practices that improve circulation, says Dr. William Knudson are taking a walk, soaking in warm water, stretching and getting a foot massage.
